Hello Hannah,

Here is your exercise of the day, based on Tuesday’s lesson with Camille. Translate into French:

“I have lived in Lyon for two years, but I still depend on my colleagues for paperwork.”

Today’s goal: use “depuis” with the present tense, covered in class.

Simply reply to this email.

Good luck,
Aldo

Follow-up makes the difference. No one pays you for it.

Between lessons, what isn’t practiced fades, and it’s your follow-up that keeps your students moving forward. Yet designing tailored exercises and correcting them every day takes time no one ever pays for.

  1. Time-consuming follow-up.

Preparing and correcting homework tailored to each student happens outside your teaching hours.

  2. The same mistakes every week.

Without practice between sessions, your students forget and start over from scratch.

  3. Highly competitive platforms.

On Preply or italki, students compare profiles and expect fast results and premium follow-up.

Your teaching, extended all week long.

ALDO builds on what you covered in class. You stay in charge of the teaching, and ALDO keeps up the daily rhythm.

  1. After the lesson

You pass the key points on to ALDO.

The vocabulary, grammar points and expressions from the session become the basis for the exercises.

  2. 08:00

    Your student gets the exercise.

A short text to translate into French, built from your lesson and matched to their level.

  3. Right away

    The correction follows.

A suggested version, mistakes explained, anglicisms spotted, and a score to track their progress.

  4. Next lesson

You build on what they’ve learned.

What doesn’t stick comes back in the following exercises, and every session starts on firmer ground.

An exercise drawn from your lesson, corrected right away.

Your answer

« J’ai habité à Lyon pour deux ans, mais je dépends toujours sur mes collègues pour le travail de papier. »

Suggested version

« J’habite à Lyon depuis deux ans, mais je dépends toujours de mes collègues pour les démarches administratives. »

Key points

  1. The present with “depuis”. For something that started in the past and is still going on, French uses the present tense with “depuis”: “j’habite à Lyon depuis deux ans”. This is the point covered in Tuesday’s lesson.

  2. The preposition. “Depend on” is not “dépendre sur”: in French, you depend “de” someone, as in “je dépends de mes collègues”.

  3. The calque. “Paperwork” can’t be translated word for word. French says “les démarches administratives”, or “la paperasse” in everyday speech.

Score:

14/20.The meaning is right and the sentence flows well. The present with “depuis” still needs work, which is perfectly normal at this stage.

Tomorrow: “depuis” will come back alongside “il y a” and “pendant”.

Keep it up,
Aldo

A label to stand out. ALDO-certified teacher.

Display the ALDO certification in your Preply, italki or Superprof bio, with a link to ALDO: future students know that daily follow-up comes with your lessons. A way to offer faster progress, and to justify higher rates.

Certification will be granted after a short validation; its conditions will be specified at launch.

Our philosophy

“Technology in the service of people, for more effective learning.”

Technology replaces neither the teacher nor the learner’s effort. It removes friction, keeps learning going between lessons, and multiplies the impact of human connection.

ALDO was born in the classroom. An English trainer for companies and a philosophy student at the Sorbonne, Jade Suzor saw the same thing with every learner: learning doesn’t stop after school, but making progress while working full time is a real challenge. ALDO is the answer: a short, demanding daily ritual that fits into an already full day.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to change the way I teach?

No. ALDO starts from your lessons and extends your teaching between sessions. You remain the teacher, and ALDO takes care of daily practice.

How does ALDO know what you covered in class?

At the end of the lesson, you tell ALDO the points covered: a few words, a grammar point, an expression. ALDO uses them to build the exercises for the following days. Several ways of passing them on are being explored, from quick entry to automatic transfer: tell us your preference in the questionnaire.

How much time will it take me?

As little as possible: the goal is to bring the time you spend preparing homework down to zero. Tell us in the questionnaire whether you’d rather have it fully automated or keep control over the points sent.

Who corrects my students’ exercises?

The ALDO agent, an artificial intelligence guided by a teaching framework designed by a language trainer: CEFR levels from A1 to C2, grammar, expressions, false friends. Its corrections are kind and explain every choice.

Do my students need to install an app?

No. Everything happens by email. No app to install, no password.

How much will ALDO cost?

Pricing hasn’t been set yet. Your answers to the questionnaire help us build an offer suited to independent teachers.

When will ALDO be available?

ALDO is opening gradually. People on the waitlist will be the first to hear from us.

What happens to my answers to the questionnaire?

They are used only to build ALDO and to contact you about its launch. They are never sold or shared.

P.S.

Why “Aldo”? For Assisted Learning Delivered Originally. But above all, it’s a first name: the one that came to mind when the project started. We later found out it was also the name of the owner of our favorite trattoria, in Paris’s 18th arrondissement. A place full of heart and generosity, just like we want every ALDO email to be.
